Teaching Materials

NACCP provides supplemental materials to support the teaching of the fourth and fifth editions of the CLC.  These materials have been created by teachers over the years and submitted to the NACCP for sharing.  There are too many teachers for us to mention individually, but we sincerely thank each of them for their generosity!

Sample Materials

Since our materials are digital downloads, all sales are final.  Free samples of NACCP’s Teaching Materials are available to let you “try before you buy” and determine if the materials will be of value to you in your classroom.  You can view and download these samples (PDF file) below:

• 4e Samples and 5e Samples show representative content and format for Stage 13 in each topic area.

• Samples are also available for Reading Comprehension Stories:  fābulae mīrābilēs Sample (Unit 1); fābulae mīrābiliōrēs Sample (Unit 2); and fābulae mīrābilissimae Sample (Unit 3A).

Similar to our original materials, these items reflect vocabulary and storyline changes in the new edition.  These items correspond to the Stages in 5e CLC Units 1-4 and are organized by 5e topic areas: Culture, Reading, Vocabulary, and Student Self Assessments.

These Teaching Material items (answers are not provided) are available for purchase using PayPal or a major credit card. Since Teaching Materials are digital downloads, all sales are final.  Click on the “Add to Cart” button below an item to select it for purchase.  After completing your order and payment information, you will see an Invoice with instructions on how to immediately download the items you have purchased.  You will also receive a separate e-mail (one for each item on the order) with a link to download the item purchased.   Each item (download) consists of one “.zip” file that contains a folder with all of the documents (PDF files) for that item.  We recommend that you immediately download the item(s) purchased; but only attempt 1 download for each item at the time of purchase.

5e – Reading Comprehension – Stories
By Kyle Smith-Laird. These stories, written for the 5th edition, explore three main story lines: that of Quintus; that of Eumachia and Lavinia; and that of Quintus’ aunt Plotina and the return of Lucia that give further female representation. The stories offer teachers new alternatives for reading, practice, and testing. 5e – Vocabulary (Contextual Quizzes)
Checklist vocabulary is tested in contextual sentences from the stories in the stage. 5e – Student Self Assessments
These student self assessments or "can do" statements ask students to rate themselves on their ability to read and understand sentences and stories, to identify the main language feature(s), to gauge their knowledge of the culture, to pronounce and define the vocabulary checklist words, and to define English words from Latin vocabulary. N.B. 4e – Certamen Cantabrigense
By Richard Popeck. The questions (and answers) are based on material that is found in the CLC text, through the 4th Edition. The questions can be used as either Toss-Up or Bonus questions for Certamen. Included is an Introduction by Mr. Popeck that details how the questions are formatted and categorized (Unit, Part, Stage, Subject). N.B. The culture activities for each unit include exercises on mapping, quizzes, riddles, matching and review exercises, cultural comparisons, word searches, and culture reviews. Each stage does not contain all types of exercises. N.B. For Unit 3, there is no file for Stage 34. 4e – Derivatives (Matching)
These worksheets contain a list of English words to match with their English definitions to help build English vocabulary skills. Exercises are based on words found on the vocabulary checklists and some items found in the cultural essay. N.B. 4e – Derivatives (Sentences)
These worksheets contain English derivatives in sentences that show the relationship between the derivative and its Latin word. Students fill in the blank to complete the sentence and also write the Latin word and definition. For example, Maternal love is love from a mother. Latin word and definition: mater-mother. N.B. The language files for each unit include exercises for practicing case uses and recognition, declensions, singular and plural, practice with new verb forms and tenses, adjective uses / forms / degree, and general language review.
